July
12, 2002 (Lexington, Ky.) --
When Jane Goodall lectures on campus later this year,
don't be surprised if she starts to pant, hoot and
scream like a chimpanzee.
That's
how she engages her audiences.
An acclaimed
scientist and conservationist known as the world's
foremost authority on chimpanzees, Goodall will lecture
regarding her research efforts and outreach programs
at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, at the University of
Kentucky Singletary Center for the Arts.
The event
is sponsored by the UK
Tracy Farmer Center for the Environment.
Goodall
has closely observed chimpanzee behavior for the past
quarter century in the jungles of the Gombe Game Reserve
in Africa, living in their environment and gaining
their confidence. Her research and writing are considered
to have made revolutionary inroads into scientific
thinking regarding the evolutions of humans.
Goodall
has expanded her global outreach with the founding
of the Jane
Goodall Institute based in Silver Spring, Md.
