Mahan,
a native of Corbin, is the University of Kentucky's
first honoree. All winners work in their respective

21, 2002 (Lexington, Ky.) -- Josh
Mahan, a University of Kentucky student assistant
in the Athletics Media Relations office, is one of
four NCAA Division I recipients of the Sears Directors'
Cup Postgraduate Scholarship awarded annually by the
National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics
(NACDA) and Sears, Roebuck and Co.
A total
of 16 students were selected nationally from NCAA
Divisions I, II and III and NAIA.
Mahan,
a native of Corbin, is the University of Kentucky's
first honoree. All winners work in their respective
athletic departments.
Mahan will
receive a $5,000 postgraduate scholarship at the NACDA's
annual convention next month in Dallas.
Mahan owns
a 4.0 GPA with a double major in political science
and history and will attend Harvard Law School in
the fall. A Dean's List honoree, the senior was in
the UK Honors Program, earned the Chancellor's and
Arts and Science Dean's scholarships and was a member
of the Golden Key and Alpha Lambda Delta honor societies.
In 2000,
he was named a Kentucky Colonel, a prestigious award
granted to those who demonstrate exceptional service
to the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Mahan interned in
the Kentucky State Legislature for the Senate president
during two legislative sessions and served another
internship where he assisted with public papers for
Kentucky's governor. He also participated in the Sixth
Congressional District Race Project. Mahan will be
honored with other Division I winners Katherine Brown
(Northwestern cheerleader), Melissa DiPerri (Towson
cheerleader) and Monica Quinn (Missouri academic support).
The 16
winners from all divisions were chosen from 185 nominees.
Sears will award a total of 20 scholarships next school
year, valued at $100,000.
