May
28, 2002 (Lexington, Ky.) -- The
Gaines Center, together with the Fayette County Neighborhood
Council and Citizen Kentucky, is sponsoring an educational
forum at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, in the William
T. Young Library auditorium on how a municipally owned
water company is run. The speaker will be John Huber,
CEO of the Louisville Water Company.
Mr Huber
will explain how the independent board that manages
his company is structured, how revenues are collected,
how capital improvements are made, as well as matters
relating to bonding and debt service.
It is free
and open to the public.
Mr. Huber
will not advocate any action by the city of Lexington;
he will simply explain Louisville's experience with
a municipally-owned water company.
This is
an outstanding opportunity for the citizens of Fayette
County to become better informed about an issue that
may well be one of the most important issues will
face in this decade.
The moderator
for the evening will be Buck Ryan, head of Citizen
Kentucky and faculty member in UK's School of Journalism
and Telecommunication.
