Sept. 3, 2002 (Lexington, Ky.) -- The University of Kentucky Libraries will present the first in a series of Distinguished Scholars Lectures for the 2002-03 academic year when Thomas Howard, director of the Gatton College of Business and Economics Von Allmen School of Accountancy, speaks at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, in the William T. Young Library Gallery.

Howard will discuss "Financial Statement Analysis for Novices," a particularly timely topic in an era when corporate financial statements have become the topic of public suspicion and official scrutiny.

The Distinguished Scholars Lecture Series will offer presentations by several faculty recruited with the Research Challenge Trust Fund.

Other speakers this fall are Kozo Saito, director of the Painting Technology Consortium in the UK Center for Robotics and Manufacturing Systems, Oct. 1; Greg A. Gerhardt, professor of neurobiology and anatomy, UK College of Medicine, Oct. 15; Tom Dillehay, professor of anthropology, UK College of Arts and Sciences, Oct. 29; and Dayna Matthew, associate professor of law, UK College of Law, Nov. 12.

All lectures will begin at 4 p.m. and are open to the public.
