August 22, 2003 (Lexington, Ky.) -- University of Kentucky President and Mrs. Lee T. Todd Jr., and other UK administrators, faculty and staff were on hand to welcome new and transfer students and their families to campus today.

Students were greeted with warm smiles, handshakes and refreshments. During the next several days, over 6,000 students will move into campus housing.

“It’s important that we help our students make a smooth transition to college life,” said Todd. “We want them to know how happy we are that they chose the University of Kentucky.”

The university will officially kick off the fall semester during an opening convocation at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, in Memorial Coliseum. The first day of classes is Wednesday, Aug. 27.
