Four University of Kentucky experts on the lean manufacturing
production philosophy will travel to Moscow, Russia,
next week as part of a team conducting simulations
designed to help industrialists become more efficient
and productive.
The UK Center for Manufacturing in the College of
Engineering is sending industrial extension specialists
Dave MacDuffee and David Veech, lecturer Jim Price,
and facilitator Bill Cooper to the Center for Business
Skills Development in Moscow. Mike Davenport, liaison
for community education and workforce development
at Madisonville Community College, will also travel
with the group.
During early August, the five specialists will conduct
lean manufacturing simulations – designed to
show how to eliminate wasteful production procedures
– for employees of York International Corp.,
a supplier of air handling systems with facilities
in Russia, and other industries in Moscow.
Translators and materials prepared in English and
Russian will be used to overcome the language barrier.
