August 28, 2003 (Lexington, Ky.) -- Pulitzer Prize-winning author John Dower and a colleague at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology will discuss the use of images as a way to understand Japanese history in a presentation at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, in the Worsham Theatre at the University of Kentucky Student Center.

Dower, who won American journalism’s highest honor for his book, “Embracing Defeat: Japan in the Wake of World War II,” is a professor of history at MIT. He and Shigeru Miyagawa, professor of Japanese at MIT, will present “Facing ‘East,’ Facing ‘West: New Directions in Visualizing Asia,” an illustrated presentation.

The event is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the UK Asia Center.
