Jan. 6, 2003 (Lexington, Ky.) -- University of Kentucky Art Museum Director Kathleen Walsh-Piper will sign her new book, “Image to Word: Art and Creative Writing,” at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, at Joseph-Beth Booksellers in Lexington Green.

The book explores the close relationship between visual art and writing by using examples of artwork to explore effective ways to teach creative writing. From paintings to sculptures to decorative arts, a variety of works illustrate lessons on point of view, stream of consciousness, imagination, description, and other topics. “Image to Word” is a valuable guide to involving and motivating students through the use of art, games, poems, and other writing exercises.

The book is based on Walsh-Piper’s teaching and research at several major art museums. The book is now available in the UK Art Museum shop, at Joseph-Beth Booksellers, Amazon.com, Scarecrowpress.com, and other book retailers. To order a copy through the Art Museum shop, contact Claude Miles or Jane Boswell at (859) 257-5716.

The University of Kentucky Art Museum is open noon to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday and noon to 8 p.m. on Friday; closed Monday and University holidays. For more information, visit the museum’s Web site at www.uky.edu/ArtMuseum.
