July 17, 2003 (Lexington, Ky.) -- Cynthia S. Iten, director of advising in the University of Kentucky College of Arts and Sciences, has been awarded an Academic Advising Summer Institute Scholarship from the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) and ACT, Inc.

Iten, who received one of only five such scholarships awarded nationwide this year by NACADA and ACT, will attend the weeklong institute July 27-Aug. 1 in St. Charles, Ill. "It's a real privilege to be involved with college students at UK through the academic advising process,” Iten said. “I'm very honored and excited that the national professional association has allowed me, through this grant, the opportunity to improve my own skills by learning from the leaders in the field at the Summer Institute."

Iten graduated from UK in 1977 with a bachelor of science degree in home economics. She earned a master’s degree in education from the College of Education in 1983.
