June 8, 2003 (Lexington, Ky.) -- Children who have survived life-threatening illnesses, injuries and birth defects were recognized as “champions” during the Children’s Miracle Network Celebration, which was broadcast live June 6-8 from Fayette Mall in Lexington on WKYT-TV, channel 27 (Lexington), and WYMT-TV, channel 57 (Hazard). The three-day event celebrated a year of giving, with donations totaling $1,231,635.

The University of Kentucky Children’s Hospital was the local beneficiary for the 16th year of the annual Children’s Miracle Network Celebration to raise funds for 170 children’s hospitals across North America.

During the broadcast, the program featured and celebrated the triumphs of UK’s young patients and the health issues they are facing. The annual program not only recognized the children as champions, but also the many people who champion children, such as families, health professionals, individuals, volunteers and donors. As part of this year’s CMN Celebration, the Kid’s Health and Safety Fest, a day of family fun and educational activities, was held throughout Fayette Mall.

The Children’s Miracle Network is unique among national fund-raisers in that all money raised in Kentucky stays in Kentucky to benefit the UK Children’s Hospital.
