June 11, 2003 (Lexington, Ky.) -- Joseph L. Fink III, vice president for corporate relations and economic outreach at the University of Kentucky, has received the 2003 annual Alumni Award of the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, Pa.

The award is bestowed by the university’s alumni association on one person annually who has “been distinguished by having contributed in outstanding fashion to the professions, to science and/or to mankind.” Previous awardees include Eli Lilly, founder of the Eli Lilly Pharmaceutical Co.

Founded in 1821, the University of the Sciences is the nation’s oldest college of pharmacy. The founders of six of the top 10 pharmaceutical companies in the world attended the university.

A 1970 graduate of the University of the Sciences, Fink also serves as associate vice president for research at UK. He is also professor of pharmacy in the UK College of Pharmacy, professor of health administration, professor of public health, and a professor in the UK Martin School of Public Policy and Administration.

Fink also has served as special assistant to the president for academic affairs, associate vice chancellor for academic affairs, and assistant dean of the College of Pharmacy.

Fink also earned his doctorate of law from Georgetown University in 1973.
