Israeli Consul General to Speak at UK

In September 2000, Becher assumed the post of Consul General of Israel in Philadelphia, which serves the jurisdictional area of Pennsylvania, Ohio, Delaware, Kentucky, West Virginia and southern New Jersey.

 

March 7, 2003 (Lexington, Ky.) -- Israeli Consul General Giora Becher will speak on “Israel and the Peace Process” at 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, in 206 Student Center, University of Kentucky.

The event is sponsored by the UK Patterson School of Diplomacy and International Commerce.

Becher was born in 1950 in Kibbutz Misgav-Am, Israel, and lived most of his life in Israel in the city of Netanya.

He received a bachelor’s degree from Tel Aviv University, studying psychology and political science, and a master’s degree in political science from the University of Haifa. He also is a graduate of the Israeli National Defense College.

He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1978. He has served in Israel’s embassies in the Dominican Republic and Argentina. He also served as Consul of Israel in Bombay and Israel’s first Charge D’affairs in New Delhi, India.

In the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jerusalem, Becher served in several positions including deputy director of the Economic Department and director of the Arms Control and Disarmament Department.
