Leadership Positions Available in Dean of Students Office

Each year five outstanding students are chosen to represent and promote UK. These students assist with the recruitment of new students and travel to UK Preview Nights. Ambassadors also assist with programs such as Kentucky Welcome, Family Weekend and Homecoming. Applicants for these positions must be undergraduates who have a comprehensive and working knowledge of the university, have strong dynamic public speaking skills, and must have completed 30 credit hours with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better. Ambassadors receive a scholarship with the understanding that each recipient will be available on the average of 10 hours per week.

 

March 11, 2003 (Lexington, Ky.) -- University of Kentucky students seeking to broaden their horizons and share their college experiences with others should consider applying for leadership positions available within the Dean of Students Office. Applications for the following positions are available on the Web or by calling (859) 257-6597, and are due Friday, March 14, 2003, in 518 Patterson Office Tower.

  • UK 101/UK 201 Peer Instructor – UK 101 is the academic orientation course for freshmen and is offered during the first eight weeks of the fall semester, with a few sections meeting the entire semester as three-credit hour classes. Responsibilities include attending an in-service training, attending all classes, assisting faculty and guest presenters, and interacting with the students.
  • Kentucky Welcome Student Assistant – Student Assistants welcome new students and their families to campus, encourage them to attend Kentucky Welcome events, work at UK’s Opening Convocation, and participate in UK Fusion day of service. Kentucky Welcome Student Assistant commitment is Aug. 22-26, 2003.
  • The Cause Peer Educator – Students who lead a healthy lifestyle and are interested in educating their peers about making low-risk drinking choices should consider joining College Alcohol Use Student Educators. Those selected will receive a $500 scholarship each semester.
  • UK Student Ambassador Program – Each year five outstanding students are chosen to represent and promote UK.   • UK Fusion Student Team Leaders – UK Fusion, For Unity and Service in Our Community, is a day of service during Kentucky Welcome. Working with a faculty/staff member, upper-class student team leaders will encourage interaction between group members and facilitate the completion of the service project while on site.
