Kentucky Author to Read From His Work

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 3, 2003) -- Silas House, author of the award-winning novels “Clay’s Quilt” and “A Parchment of Leaves” will read from his work at the University of Kentucky’s William T. Young Library auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4.

A native of Eastern Kentucky and a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University, House was a rural mail carrier in Laurel County before becoming a full-time writer. He lives in Lily, Ky., in Laurel County.

He is a frequent contributor to National Public Radio’s “All Things Considered” and was recently voted Kentucky’s Favorite Writer in a statewide poll conducted by Kentucky Monthly magazine. He also received the Award for Special Achievement from the Fellowship of Southern Writers and was nominated for the Southern Book Critics Circle Prize.

House recently completed his third novel, “The Coal Tattoo,” which will be released in September 2004 by Algonquin Books.
