“We appreciate all the people who give to help our hospital. With these funds we are able to send our nurses to continuing educational courses, buy specialized pediatric medical equipment, resources to help teach children about their medical needs and even entertainment for the patients while they are in the hospital.”

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 26, 2003) -- Four University of Kentucky Children’s Hospital patients have created artwork for the 2003 limited edition holiday cards being sold to benefit UK Children’s Hospital.

Kamella Adams, 8, daughter of Rodney and Jessica Adams of London; Mallory Yvonne Williams, who died at the age of 4, daughter of Paul and Karen Warford Williams of Lawrenceburg; Elizabeth Shroader, 16, daughter of Debi Schroader and David Schroader of Lexington; and Shannon Hinkle, 18, daughter of Marsha Hinkle and Gary Hinkle of Bimble, created the artwork selected for this year’s cards. Drawings include a tree, Santa Claus, winter scene, mittens and presents.

Children’s Miracle Network fund-raising events give us another source of funds to pull from for the extras we may need,” said Sherry Holmes, service director for the UK Children’s Hospital.

“We appreciate all the people who give to help our hospital. With these funds we are able to send our nurses to continuing educational courses, buy specialized pediatric medical equipment, resources to help teach children about their medical needs and even entertainment for the patients while they are in the hospital,” she said.

Cards will be available throughout the holiday season at all Kroger stores in Lexington, Nicholasville, Georgetown, Winchester, Richmond and other Central Kentucky locations.
The cards also will be available for purchase at the UK Hospital gift shop. The cost for a package of 14 cards is $6.50. With orders of 100 cards or more, a personal message can be printed on the inside of the card. To make a large quantity order, contact UK Children’s Hospital Fund Development at (859) 257-1121 to reserve cards. To preview the 2003 holiday cards, go to the Web site.

Proceeds fund pediatric research, and new equipment and program enhancement for the UK Children’s Hospital.
