Artist John Dowell to Speak

John Dowell, a printmaker, is chair and professor of art at the Tyler School of Art, Temple University, Philadelphia, Pa. His work can be found in many collections including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Dowell was also included in a 1975 Whitney Biennial art exhibit.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 21, 2003) -- Artist John Dowell will speak at noon Friday, Oct. 24, in 118 White Hall Classroom Building on the University of Kentucky campus as part of the UK College of Fine Arts’ 2003-2004 Visiting Artist Series.

John Dowell, a printmaker, is chair and professor of art at the Tyler School of Art, Temple University, Philadelphia, Pa. His work can be found in many collections including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Dowell was also included in a 1975 Whitney Biennial art exhibit.

The Department of Art in the UK College of Fine Arts is sponsoring the Visiting Artist Series which will bring nationally and internationally known artists to UK to lecture in week-long residencies. Dowell’s is the seventh artist to visit UK this semester. He will give a public lecture about his life’s work and will be available for questions following his speech. Dowell’s speech is free and open to the public.
