LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 13, 2003) -- University of Kentucky students, faculty, staff and alumni will be celebrating “Homecoming: Wildcat Bandstand” during the 2003 Homecoming festivities. Homecoming Week, Oct. 12-18, will feature several events with a 1950s theme, including the “Wildcat Bandstand Homecoming Gala” and Drive-in, as well as the traditional pep rally and parade.

Homecoming is presented annually by the UK Student Activities Board. Information about Homecoming 2003 can be found on the Internet.

Events set for the week are:

Sunday, Oct. 12 – 5K Run/Walk
The 5K is Homecoming Week’s kickoff event that helps raise money for the American Diabetes Association. Participants will receive a T-shirt as well as other awards based on finish. Registration is $10 until 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, in 203 Student Center, and $13 on the day of the race. The 5K will take place at 2 p.m. at the UK/Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government Arboretum.

Monday, Oct. 13 – Patio Party
All students, alumni, faculty and staff are invited to the Patterson Office Tower from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for free food and music.

Tuesday, Oct. 14 – Drive-in Movie
A new addition to Homecoming is Drive-in Movie, which will be held at 7 p.m. in the Purple Parking lot near Commonwealth Stadium. “Grease” and “National Lampoon’s Animal House” will be shown and there will be popcorn and drinks available as well.

Wednesday, Oct. 15 – Banner Judging
Banners hung on campus by organizations supporting the Wildcats will be judged. Banners should be turned in to 245 Student Center Monday, Oct. 13, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Thursday, Oct. 16 – Homecoming Gala/Sock-Hop
The gala will be held from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Lexington with live music and free food. 1950s attire is encouraged. Free tickets are available at the Student Center Ticket Office.

Friday, Oct. 17 – Parade and Pep Rally
The Alumni Association will host a Parade Watch Party at 7 p.m. at the Helen G. King Alumni House, at the corner of Rose Street and Euclid Avenue. The entire family is invited for free food and drinks. Alumni must register by calling 257-8905 or (800) 269-ALUM. The annual Homecoming Parade begins at 7:30 p.m. at Commonwealth Stadium and ends at the Pep Rally at Stoll Field beside the Student Center.

Saturday, Oct. 18 – The Game
The Alumni Association will host the Pre-game Alumni Tent Party, next to the Fun Zone, beginning two hours before kickoff of the game. Reservations are required for a box dinner, which costs $10 per person. Call 257-8905 or (800) 269-ALUM. Homecoming week culminates as the UK Wildcats play the Ohio University Bobcats at 7 p.m. Saturday. Tickets can be purchased online at www.ukathletics.com, at the UK Athletic ticket office in Memorial Coliseum, or by calling (800) 928-2287 or 257-1818.

Paint the Town Blue
This event is one of UK’s newest traditions. Last year, student organizations partnered with local businesses and painted the windows along Limestone and Euclid Avenue to showcase school spirit and enliven the local atmosphere during Homecoming Week.
