Gubernatorial Convocation Scheduled

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 26, 2003) -- The Staff Senate, the University Senate, and Student Government at the University of Kentucky are jointly sponsoring a Gubernatorial Convocation at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, in the UK Student Center’s Worsham Theatre.

Ben Chandler, Democratic candidate for governor, and Steve Pence, Republican candidate for lieutenant governor, will answer questions submitted in advance by students, faculty and staff, according to Scott Marksberry, chairman of the External Affairs Committee of the UK Staff Senate.

Free tickets to the convocation will be available starting Sept. 29 to UK students, faculty and staff at the Student Center Ticket Office. UK identification is required.

The questions for the candidates must be submitted in advance, Marksberry said. The deadline for submitting questions is noon Thursday, Oct. 2.

Students’ questions may be submitted to the Student Government office, 120 Student Center, CAMPUS 0030, by email at info@uksga.com or by telephone at 257-3191.

Faculty questions should be submitted to Rebecca Scott in the Senate Council office, 152 Bowman Hall, Campus 0059, by calling 257-5871, or by e-mail to rebecca.scott@uky.edu.

Staff questions should be submitted to Beverly Allison, Heating and Cooling Department, Hospital Drive, Building 85, Campus 0005, or by e-mail to beverly.allison@ppd.uky.edu.

The convocation will be moderated by Buck Ryan, executive director of the UK First Amendment Center. The questions will be asked of the candidates by Rachel Watts, Student Government president (student questions); Jeff Dembo, chair, Senate Council (faculty questions); and Sheila Brothers, Staff Senate chair (staff questions).
