LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 8, 2004) -- The University of Kentucky students in associate professor Penny Miller’s political science class are getting a close look at the legislative process. The students are serving internships with Kentucky legislators in the 2004 session of the General Assembly in Frankfort.

Miller said the students will greatly benefit from the “unique opportunity to share their experiences with each other and use their internships as a basis for furthering their study and understanding of the political process.”

The students, their hometowns, and the legislator they are interning with are:

• Lauren Blank, a junior political science student from Taylor Mill, is interning for Rep. Bob M. DeWeese (R-Louisville);

• Tony Colyer, a junior political science student from Louisville, is interning for Rep. Larry Clark (D-Louisville);

• Katherine Fitzpatrick, a senior political science student from Lexington, is interning for Rep. Rock Adkins (D-Sandy Hook);

• Courtney French, a junior political science and public service student from Warsaw, is interning for Sen. Daniel Mongiardo (D-Hazard);

• Nick Grinstead, a junior foreign language/international economics student from Louisville, is interning for Rep. Lonnie Napier (R-Lancaster);

• Andrew Grossman, a senior political science and history student from Lexington, is interning for Sen. Ernesto Scorsone (D-Lexington);

• Trey Hieneman, a junior political science student from Ashland, is interning for Rep. Joe Barrows, House Majority Whip (D-Versailles);

• Hollie Howard, a sophomore political science student from Sandy Hook, is interning for Sen. Walter Blevins Jr. (D-West Liberty);

• Christopher Hunt, a senior political science and economics student from Hartford, is interning for Sen. Vernie McGaha (R-Russell Springs);

• Megan Maxfield, a junior political science student from Taylor Mill, is interning for Rep. Robin Webb (D-Grayson);

• Amber Nisbit, a sophomore English and political science student from Huntington, W.Va., is interning for Rep. John Arnold Jr. (D-Sturgis);

• Emily Nolan, a sophomore political science and Spanish student from Louisville, is interning for Rep. Mary Lou Marzian (D-Louisville);

• Ashley Peters, a sophomore political science student from Hazel, is interning for Sen. Albert Robinson (R-London);

• Andrea Pryor, a junior political science student from Little Rock, Ark., is interning for Rep. Ruth Ann Palumbo (D-Lexington);

• Meagan Rideout, a sophomore political science student from Poole, is interning for Sen. Lindy Casebier (R-Louisville);

• Christina Scott, a senior political science and history student from Prospect, is interning for Sen. Alice Forgy Kerr (R-Lexington);

• Dustin Thacker, a sophomore political science student from Russell, is interning for Rep. Bob Damron (D-Nicholasville);

• Daniel Turner, a sophomore economics student from Kevil, is interning for Rep. Jodie Haydon (D-Bardstown);

• Lora Winstead, a sophomore public service and leadership student from Slaughters, is interning for Sen. Julie Denton (R-Louisville); and

• Ben Woodman, a junior foreign language and international economics student from Berea, is interning for Rep. Steve Riggs (D-Louisville).
