LEXINGTON,
Ky. (April 9, 2004) -- Janet
Reno, the first woman Attorney General of the
United States, has rescheduled her canceled visit
to the University of Kentucky. Reno will speak
at noon Wednesday, April 14, in the University
of Kentucky College of Law courtroom. The event
is free and open to the public.
Reno’s
visit is part of UK’s commemoration of the
50th anniversary of the Brown vs. Board of Education
ruling that ended racial segregation in public
schools.
“Ms.
Reno has an interesting perspective on the Brown
vs. Board of Education case because as the attorney
general, she dealt with the legacy of Brown and
she also grew up in the South during that time,” said
Allan Vestal, dean of the UK College of Law.
A
native of South Florida, Reno graduated from Coral
Gables High School, Cornell University, and Harvard
Law School. Prior to her appointment as attorney
general, she served for 15 years as the State Attorney
for Dade County, Fla. Reno is involved with issues
important to her, including advocacy for children,
problem solving, law enforcement and elder justice.
