Harry Enoch presents a plaque to Robert Yokel for
his efforts in improving safety within the UK
College of Pharmacy.

This
is the third consecutive year a pharmacy faculty
member has received the award. Other UK College
of Pharmacy honorees since the award was established
in 1996 are Teri Strickland, safety and security
officer in 2003, and Michael Jay, director of the
Center for Pharmaceutical Science and Technology
in 2002.

LEXINGTON,
Ky. (April 20, 2004) -- The
Committee on Environmental Health and Safety
handed out their annual honors for contributions
to the safety efforts of the University of Kentucky
on March 24. Robert Yokel, associate dean for
research and graduate education and professor
of pharmacology and toxicology, UK College of
Pharmacy, was recognized for his efforts in two
areas: decreasing the inventory of hazardous
chemicals in the college’s laboratories
and instituting a chemical inventory program
within the college.
“The
only other chemical inventory program on the UK
campus is within the Department of Chemistry,” Harry
Enoch, director, UK Environmental Health and Safety
said. Other honorees for 2004 included Debra Sipe,
Regulatory Services; Pradeep Kachroo, Plant Pathology;
Susan Kramer, Pharmacology; and Charles Peyton,
Housing Services.
