The CPE coordinates change and improvement in Kentucky’s postsecondary education system as directed by the 1997 Kentucky Postsecondary Education Improvement Act. The council was established in 1997 as a 15-member board with 12 citizens, one faculty member, and one student appointed by the governor. The Commissioner of Education is an ex-officio member.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 23, 2004) -- University of Kentucky student Tony J. Stoeppel of Lexington has been appointed to the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education by Governor Ernie Fletcher. Stoeppel will be representing students at a state institution of postsecondary education.
Stoeppel currently is a graduate student in UK’s Martin School of Public Policy and Administration and also works as a senior investment associate at Clearbrook & Co. Ltd. He is a graduate of UK, where he studied agricultural engineering and public policy. As an undergraduate student, Stoeppel was a member of UK Student Government and Kentucky 4-H.
