LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 9, 2004) -- Eighteen Lexington residents received certificates on Tuesday, Dec. 7, marking completion of the University of Kentucky Community Outreach Partnership Center’s 12-week Citizens Leadership Academy.

The 18 received training on topics such as creating and exercising personal power and leadership; different styles of leadership; communications; evaluating and using community assets; strategic planning; grant writing; effective media strategies and presentation skills; and influencing public policy.

Among those who spoke to the group during the academy were Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council members George Brown, Jacques Wigginton, and Chuck Ellinger.

Jenny Laster, president and CEO of The GrassRoots Leadership Academy of Cincinnati, addressed the 18 participants at the graduation ceremony.
