LEXINGTON,
Ky. (Feb. 13, 2004) -- The
16th University of Kentucky Cultural Diversity
Festival will highlight the university’s
diversity with displays, events and cultural
shows. This year’s festival will be held
Feb. 16-28.
“The
Cultural Diversity Festival facilitates a strong
awareness of UK’s diversity. The events throughout
the week are inclusive, regardless of sex, age,
race, ability or ethnicity,” said Patricia
Terrell, vice president for student affairs. Her
office sponsors the annual event.
Highlights
of this year’s festival include:
- Diversity
Festival Kickoff, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.,
Feb. 16, 214 Student Center, William T. Young
Library and Lexington Community College. The
Cultural Diversity Festival Committee will
officially kickoff the university’s two-week
celebration of its collective diversity with
free food, entertainment and information on
the festival’s activities and events.
- World
Pastry Café, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
each day, Feb. 16-20, 245 Student Center. Room
245 Student Center receives a magical transformation
from multipurpose meeting room to a lovely
eatery. Among the traditional items to be sold
are tortes, eclairs, grenache and quiche.
- A
Taste of Our World, 11 a.m. to 1:30
p.m., Feb. 18, Student Center Grand Ballroom.
The UK community can share in the celebration
of our collective diversity at this event.
A diverse menu of cultural-rich food items
representing six continents is planned. Tickets
will be sold to purchase individual samples
or servings of the dishes (Diner and Plus accounts
accepted).
