LEXINGTON,
Ky. (Feb. 24, 2004) -- The
President’s Commission on Diversity (PCD)
at the University of Kentucky is accepting nominations
for the 2004 President’s Award for Diversity
(PAD). The deadline for nominations is March
4.
UK’s
2003-2006 strategic plan established a goal to
nurture diversity of thought, culture, gender and
ethnicity. In recognition of this goal, the President’s
Award for Diversity has been established in honor
and appreciation of those who have demonstrated
outstanding efforts toward UK’s mission of
embracing diversity while maintaining academic
excellence.
“Given
the university’s strategic goal for diversity,
the commission is pleased that this particular
initiative provides another step for the University
of Kentucky toward this goal,” said Deneese
Jones, chairwoman of the PCD.
The
President’s Award for Diversity is presented
in six different categories:
- UK
student
- UK
staff
- UK
faculty
- UK
administrator
- UK
unit or department
- Individual
or agency from Kentucky
Self
nominations are permitted in all categories and
re-submissions from past
nominees not chosen as recipients are encouraged.

Nominations
should be submitted by the March 4 deadline either online or
mailed to the President’s Commission on Diversity,
Office of the President, 2 Gillis Building, University
of Kentucky, Lexington KY 40506-0033.
The
President’s Commission on Diversity Awards
Committee will select the recipients for the award.
Winners receive $500 and a plaque in recognition
and appreciation of their achievements. Recipients
will not be named until the public presentation
ceremony at 9 a.m. Wednesday, March 24, in the
College of Law Courtroom. For more information,
