LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 24, 2004) -- The President’s Commission on Diversity (PCD) at the University of Kentucky is accepting nominations for the 2004 President’s Award for Diversity (PAD). The deadline for nominations is March 4.

UK’s 2003-2006 strategic plan established a goal to nurture diversity of thought, culture, gender and ethnicity. In recognition of this goal, the President’s Award for Diversity has been established in honor and appreciation of those who have demonstrated outstanding efforts toward UK’s mission of embracing diversity while maintaining academic excellence.

“Given the university’s strategic goal for diversity, the commission is pleased that this particular initiative provides another step for the University of Kentucky toward this goal,” said Deneese Jones, chairwoman of the PCD.

The President’s Award for Diversity is presented in six different categories:

  • UK student
  • UK staff
  • UK faculty
  • UK administrator
  • UK unit or department
  • Individual or agency from Kentucky

Self nominations are permitted in all categories and re-submissions from past
nominees not chosen as recipients are encouraged. Complete criteria for nominees and nomination forms can be accessed through the PCD Web site.

Nominations should be submitted by the March 4 deadline either online or mailed to the President’s Commission on Diversity, Office of the President, 2 Gillis Building, University of Kentucky, Lexington KY 40506-0033.

The President’s Commission on Diversity Awards Committee will select the recipients for the award. Winners receive $500 and a plaque in recognition and appreciation of their achievements. Recipients will not be named until the public presentation ceremony at 9 a.m. Wednesday, March 24, in the College of Law Courtroom.
