LEXINGTON,
Ky. (Jan. 12, 2004) -- The University
of Kentucky Police Department has issued a “Campus
Safety Alert” following a report Sunday night,
Jan. 11, of an armed robbery in the Cooperstown housing
area. The Cooperstown apartments are located on the east
side of campus between Hilltop Avenue and Columbia Avenue.
The
female victim, a UK graduate student, reported she was
robbed by two suspects who demanded her wallet. After taking
an undetermined amount of cash, she reported the suspects
fled in the direction of the Shively Baseball stadium.
The incident was reported at approximately 8:40 p.m.
“Both
suspects are described as white, in their early 20s, wearing
black slacks and jackets as well as black bandanas and
black stockings over their faces,” said Travis Manley,
public information officer for UK Police. “One suspect
was armed with what was described as a baton or club.”
UK Police
are still investigating, and no arrest has been made at
this time.
The
police department has issued safety information in the
Campus Safety Alert distributed on campus. Students and
employees are advised to walk in pairs or groups after
dark and to travel well-lit, main thoroughfares and carry
only a minimal amount of cash. The alert also advises that
if anyone is accosted, to comply with the demands of the
assailant and report the incident immediately to UK Police
by dialing 911.
