LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 28, 2004) -- The University of Kentucky Percussion Ensemble, under the director of James Campbell, School of Music professor in the College of Fine Arts, has won a Percussion Ensemble Competition sponsored by the Percussive Arts Society (PAS).

UK and five other winning ensembles, including those from Rutgers and the University of Zagreb Music Academy in Croatia, will perform at the 2004 Percussive Arts Society International Convention Nov. 10-13 in Nashville, Tenn.

Campbell said the percussion ensembles will be featured in showcase concerts during the convention.

PAS President Mark Ford said, “PAS hosts the competition each year in order to encourage, promote and reward musical excellence in percussion ensemble performance. The prize is an invitation to perform before an audience of thousands of percussionists at the worlds’ premier percussion event.”
