LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 11, 2004) -- Thomas S. Foster, professor, University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy, and professor, UK College of Medicine, has been selected by the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) to chair the nominations committee for the election of scientists and clinician volunteers to serve on the Council of Experts for the 2005-2010 five-year organization cycle.

Formed by the U.S. Congress, the USP is an internationally renowned public standards organization that distributes standards and information to improve health and promote optimal health care delivery.

The USP charges the nominations committee with developing the procedures necessary to assure the election of the most qualified scientific pool of volunteers to serve on 52 expert committees. Expert committees will be elected at the USP Convention to be held March 10-13, 2005.

Foster has been affiliated with the USP as a volunteer scientist since 1985 and currently serves as chairman of the Expert Committee on Biopharmaceutics, as a member of the Nomenclature and Labeling and Reference Standards Committees, and a member of the Executive Committee of the Council of Experts.
