LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 17, 2004) -- The University of Kentucky College of Education has signed an agreement of cooperation with a leading European research university to open opportunities for students and faculty from both institutions to participate in collaborative research projects and exchange programs.

The University of Jyväskylä, Finland’s primary research institution, and UK developed the project over a period of more than two years, said James G. Cibulka, UK College of Education dean. The agreement will last five years with built-in options for renewal.

Lars Bjork, associate professor in the UK Department of Administration and Supervision, spearheaded the project along with Jukka Alava, director for the Institute for Educational Leadership in Finland.

The University of Jyväskylä has forged similar relationships with the University of Texas at Austin and University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill. Both are established benchmark universities with the UK College of Education.
