LEXINGTON,
Ky. (March 1, 2004) -- Melinda
Edgerton, an academic adviser in the College
of Arts and Sciences at the University of
Kentucky, has been awarded the 2004 Frances J.
Ockerman International Award by the UK
Office of International Affairs for her special
efforts to befriend UK’s international
students.
The
award honors Frances J. Ockerman, a Kentucky native
and UK graduate who volunteered her time for 26
years hosting and tutoring international students
and editing manuscripts for students and visitors.
She became involved in the work when her husband
was a graduate student in agriculture at UK and
continued the work for many years at Ohio State
University where he continues as a faculty member.
The award was presented to Edgerton at the International
Talent Night program in Memorial Hall.
