Adelstein Award is named for the late Carol S.
Adelstein, wife of retired UK English professor
Michael Adelstein. Mrs. Adelstein, who used a wheelchair
because of polio, was an inspiration to persons
with disabilities by leading a meaningful, successful
life at a time when individuals with disabilities
were not encouraged to be independent and contributing
members of society.

LEXINGTON,
Ky. (March 8, 2004) -- The
University of Kentucky Disability Resource Center
is seeking nominations for the 2004 Carol S.
Adelstein Outstanding Student Award.
The
award honors a UK student who has a physical, learning
or medical disability and who has been an inspiration
to others through academic achievement, leadership,
extracurricular activities, or social and personal
qualities.
The
Adelstein Award is named for the late Carol S.
Adelstein, wife of retired UK English professor
Michael Adelstein. Mrs. Adelstein, who used a wheelchair
because of polio, was an inspiration to persons
with disabilities by leading a meaningful, successful
life at a time when individuals with disabilities
were not encouraged to be independent and contributing
members of society.

nominate a student, send a letter of support including
the student’s name and qualifications to
the Disability Resource Center, 2 Alumni Gym, UK,
Lexington, Ky. 40506-0029 or e-mail the nomination
to Jake Karnes.
The deadline for nominations is March 19, 2004.
