LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 18, 2004) -- The University of Kentucky Office of Undergraduate Admission and University Registrar will host Merit Weekends March 19-20 and March 26-27. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the program.

Merit Weekends were created to allow the best and brightest high school students who are considering attending UK one last look at the university. Students will have the opportunity to meet with an academic adviser, to receive an orientation concerning student life at UK, and to complete priority registration for fall classes. To be invited to Merit Weekend a student must have scored at least a 28 on the ACT or 1240 on the SAT.

“Merit Weekends are extremely important as we continue to attract and matriculate the top students in-state as well as out-of-state to the University of Kentucky,” said Suzanne McGurk, associate director of undergraduate admission and associate registrar. “We are expecting over 700 students to attend Merit Weekends this year.”

“It appears that we will set an attendance record this year with the number of qualified and invited students who are expected to participate,” said Don Witt, director of undergraduate admission and university registrar. “This program fits so well with UK’s mission of becoming a top-20 institution as well as our strategic plan – recruiting top undergraduates help to form UK’s excellent foundation.”
