Swimming
pool artwork to be displayed in Rasdall Gallery

“In
this exhibit, the student teachers are recreating
the fantasy and play environments they set up in
the public schools daily to inspire children’s
creative playing and art making. Among the art
works on display made by the student teachers is
a wonderful mix of art made by the students’ students."

LEXINGTON,
Ky. (March 21, 2004) -- The
Rasdall Gallery in the University of Kentucky
Student Center will become a toy store/beach
as UK art students and their own young students
from public schools hold an interactive reception
from 5-7:30 p.m. Friday, March 26.
The
reception and the exhibit – which is open
now until the night of the reception – are
free and open to the public. The exhibit is sponsored
by the UK
Student Activities Board and the UK
Art Department in the College
of Fine Arts.
In
the exhibit during the reception, play swimming
pools will simulate water play scenes and the Gallery
becomes a toy store with birds flying around as
part of an exhibit titled “The Artist Within
the Teacher,” organized by student art teachers
under the direction of art professor George Szekely.
“In
this exhibit, the student teachers are recreating
the fantasy and play environments they set up in
the public schools daily to inspire children’s
creative playing and art making,” Szekely
said. “Among the art works on display made
by the student teachers is a wonderful mix of art
made by the students’ students,” he
added.
