LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 14, 2004) -- The University of Kentucky Libraries will host the seventh annual International Symposium on Electronic Theses and Dissertations on Thursday through Saturday, June 3-5.

This conference brings together the world’s leading authorities on the use of information technology to produce and make accessible the research performed by university graduate and doctoral students around the world.

“There has been an amazing movement away from paper publications and toward electronic publication of graduate theses and doctoral dissertations, and UK stands among the world’s leaders in the adoption and utilization of information technology in the production and dissemination of new knowledge,” said Carol Pitts Diedrichs, UK’s dean of libraries.

Among the symposium’s presenters are Richard Jones of the University of Edinburgh, Scotland; Ana M.B. Pavani of Pontificia Universidade Catolica Do Rio De Janeiro, Brazil; and Yang Zhao and Airong Jiang of Tsinghua University, China.

Diedrichs noted the symposium will be held outside the United States for the next two years. “The fact that UK was selected as a host university reflects well on how we are regarded among our peer institutions around the world,” she said.

More information about the conference is available online.
