LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 8, 2004) -- Juan-Pablo Gonzalez, a music professor at the Catholic University of Chile in Santiago, will present a lecture at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, titled “The Making of a Social History of Popular Music in Chile (1890-1950), Problems, Methods and Results.”

The lecture, which will be followed by a reception with the speaker, will be conducted in the Niles Gallery of the UK Lucille Little Fine Arts Library and is free and open to the public.

Gonzalez’ lecture considers the strategies to develop popular music studies in musicology, a discipline which has neglected the study of music in the mass media, said Lance Brunner, associate professor in the School of Music in the UK College of Fine Arts.

The lecture is part of the Rey M. Longyear Lecture Series in Musicology.
