LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 9, 2005) -- A University of Kentucky Debate Team, directed by UK communication professor J.W. Patterson, tied for third place in a national invitational debate tournament held at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., from Saturday, Feb. 5, through Monday, Feb. 7. About 130 college and university teams from Maine to California participated in the debate at Northwestern University.

The UK team consisted of two members, Reuben Schy, from Glenview, Ill., a junior majoring in political science, and Angelo Theodosopoulos, from Buffalo Grove, Ill., a sophomore political science major.The tournament was won by a team from Harvard University. A team from the University of California at Berkeley placed second.
