LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 10, 2005) -- Acclaimed choreographer Lula Washington and her dance company will lead a University of Kentucky dance master class at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, in the Barker Hall Dance Studio.
The event is sponsored by UK's Office of Undergraduate Studies, the UK Dance Program, the UK Singletary Center for the Arts, and Kentucky Partners in Dance. The master class will incorporate such diverse dance forms as modern, jazz, ballet, tap and African. There is a $5 admission fee.
The Lula Washington Dance Theatre educates children and adults in the areas of modern, jazz, tap, ballet and African dance. Through various public performances and public outreach programs, Lula Washington Dance Theatre also attempts to bring together people of various cultures and backgrounds.
Lula Washington and her company are praised for their artistic achievements and modern dance innovations. The New York Times wrote, "This 15-year-old company proved to be a vibrant, beautifully trained ensemble with an important message.”
