UK Grad, Wilco Win Two Grammys

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 14, 2005) -- Glenn Kotche, a 1994 percussion graduate of the University of Kentucky School of Music, won a Grammy Award yesterday as a member of the Chicago-based band, Wilco. The group captured the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album for their latest release, "A Ghost Is Born," on Nonesuch Records. The album also won a second Grammy for Best Recording Package.

Glenn Kotche graduated from UK in 1994 with a Bachelor of Music in music performance.  Since leaving Kentucky, he has played on over 70 recordings in addition to writing for film and television. Kotche is the drummer with the Grammy award-winning band Wilco.  Along with his band mates in Wilco, he is a subject of the documentary film “I'm Trying to Break Your Heart” as well as the books “ Learning How to Die” and “ Wilcobook.” Kotche has recorded three solo percussion records under his own name; released three records with the duo On Fillmore, in which he plays vibraphone; and is a member of Loose Fur.  He has performed on “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno,” “The Late Show with David Letterman,” “Late Night with Conan O’Brian,” “Austin City Limits,” “PBS’s Soundstage,” CNN, VH1 and the BBC.  Kotche has toured extensively in North America, Europe, Japan, Australia and New Zealand and resides with his wife Miiri in Chicago.
