‘Return to Kandahar’ Showing Feb. 24

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 16, 2005) -- “Return to Kandahar,” a film about a young woman who travels deep into Afghanistan seeking a childhood friend and finds a country torn by many years of war and strife, will be shown at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, at the University of Kentucky Gaines Center’s Bingham-Davis House at 218 East Maxwell Street.

The film, which is free and open to the public, is the next offering in the UK Women’s Studies Spring 2005 Film Series, “Women and War, History and Memory.”

A commentary and discussion of the film, which stars Nelofer Pazira, will be led by Karen Petrone, associate professor of history at UK who is working on a book titled “World War I Memory and the Culture of Soviet Militarism.”
