LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 21, 2005) -- The University of Kentucky School of Music will present “ A Grand and Glorious Noise: American Music from the Time of George Washington” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, in the Recital Hall of the Singletary Center for the Arts.

Celebrate Washington’s birthday with a concert of Colonial and Federal era music for small military wind ensembles, or "Harmonie" bands. The UK School of Music faculty and students from the winds, brass, percussion and choral departments will regale the audience with spirited tunes, some not heard in over 200 years. The performance is sponsored by the John Jacob Niles Center for American Music and will be directed by its associate director Nikos Pappas. A reception will follow the concert in the Niles Center.

Tickets for the concert are $5 for students and $10 for all others. To purchase tickets, contact the Singletary Center for the Arts box office at (859) 257-4929 or online. More information on this event and other upcoming School of Music performances can be found at on the Web site.
