LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 22, 2005) -- National City, in conjunction with the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF), will donate $50,000 to the University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center. Through this effort, $400,000 will be donated in a single day to six hospitals working in support of breast cancer prevention and education. The official check presentation took place at Bluegrass Airport as one of the six stops on the Tour of Hope.

"The generosity of the National Breast Cancer Foundation and National City will allow us to help under-served women in Kentucky get the mammograms they need," said Dr. Alfred Cohen, Markey Cancer Center director and CEO. "We are grateful for this gift which will make it possible to reach more women in Kentucky."

Markey is one stop of six on the 2005 Tour of Hope. A donation of $50,000 will be presented to each of five hospitals to fund programs to help women who might not be able to afford a mammogram. Other recipients of the $50,000 donations are Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio; St. Vincent's Hospital Foundation in Indianapolis, Ind.; The Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Neb.; and St. Anthony's Medical Center in St. Louis, Mo.
