LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 28, 2005) -- The author of the medical protocol for drug endangered children will speak at a conference sponsored by the University of Kentucky’s Health Education Through Extension Leadership (HEEL) program and College of Medicine Saturday, March 5.

Penny Grant, M.D., FAAP, associate professor of pediatrics, University of Oklahoma-Tulsa and co-author of the National Protocol for Methamphetamine Exposed Children will speak to health professionals from 9 to 11:30 a.m. in the UK Hospital Auditorium (room HG 611), sixth floor.

Grant will discuss the chemicals involved in the home manufacturing process for methamphetamine and the risk involved from exposures, including explosions, fire, burns, and potential poisoning of children located in the residence. She also will discuss physical and neuro-developmental health effects of exposure and the role of health professionals in the care of methamphetamine-exposed children.
