LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 8, 2005) -- Formerly known as STEPS, Student Employment and Temporary Employment are two distinct services within the University of Kentucky Human Resources Department that can offer many advantages to those seeking employment at the university.
STEPS was initiated in November 1979 to reduce the university’s costs of temporary employment services. Today, Temporary Employment fills that niche, acting as a full-service temporary staffing agency for UK that can offer “a foot in the door” for future full-time employment consideration.
Temporary Employment is free and available to anyone who qualifies, including students and non-students, but only fills temporary positions on campus. Student Employment also is free but only available to students, providing positions that are both on and off campus.
“The average student hourly pay rate is almost $8 off campus and approximately $7.25 on campus, which is well above minimum wage,” said Linda Bach, Student Employment specialist.

“There really is a job for everyone, and all you have to do is search online for the one that suits your interests then come to Scovell Hall to fill out an application,” said Bach.
For those interested in a change of pace, Chuck Embs, Temporary Employment specialist said, “We understand that people may not want the same job every day, so temporary employment is a good outlet for those looking for a change or a good segue into regular employment at UK.”
