LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 11, 2005) -- In an effort to meet the needs of those who remain on campus during break and to gauge interest levels, University of Kentucky Parking & Transportation Services launches a pilot program for Spring Break Campus Area Transit System (C.A.T.S.) bus service.

In the past, campus bus service has ceased over spring break.  Under the pilot program, one C.A.T.S. bus will run on main campus.  Additionally, the Medical Center route will continue to run its normal schedule.  All other C.A.T.S. and LexTran campus bus services will not operate during spring break, but will resume normal operations on Monday, March 21.

“It is important to our department to stay informed of C.A.T.S. bus passengers’ satisfaction with our service so that we can continue to serve them well, “said Don Thornton, director of Parking & Transportation Services.

The spring break route is available Monday, March 14, through Friday, March 18.  The bus runs from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., with breaks in service at 9:30 – 10 a.m., noon – 1 p.m., and 2 – 2:30 p.m.

The spring break route is a 30-minute loop, similar to the night route; stops include Commonwealth Village, Greg Page Apartments, Shawneetown, Seaton/Johnson Center, and the William T. Young Library, among others.  The complete schedule can be viewed online.

UK C.A.T.S. bus service is subsidized by Parking & Transportation Services and is free to UK and Lexington Community College students, faculty and staff.
