LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 8, 2005) -- The University of Kentucky College of Public Health will graduate its first-ever class of doctoral students Sunday, May 8. The 12 students receiving doctoral degrees will pursue careers in public health education, research and service. In these roles, they will strive to enhance the health status and quality of life for individuals, families, and communities in Kentucky and beyond.
The College of Public Health was officially named a college on May 4, 2004 by the UK Board of Trustees. Previously the School of Public Health, it was established at UK in 1998. The Doctorate of Public Health is a terminal professional degree and requires a minimum of 63 semester hours of course work beyond the Master's degree. The Dr. Public Health candidate must have a Master of Public Health, a Master of Science in Public Health, or an equivalent degree before entering the program.
