Freeman Receives National Honors in Student Clinical Research

University of Kentucky College of Dentistry third-year student Chris Freeman has received top honors recently for his research in cell modification to study the herpes virus.

LEXINGTON, KY (Dec. 14, 1999) – University of Kentucky College of Dentistry third-year student Chris Freeman has received top honors recently for his research in cell modification to study the herpes virus.

Freeman received first place in Student Clinicians of the American

Dental Association competition sponsored by Dentsply International held at the American Dental Association Convention in Honolulu, Hawaii. Freeman, of San Diego, had his research selected over entries from students representing 52 dental schools in the United States and Canada.

He also recently received the Most Outstanding Presentation in Basic Science Research at the Hinman Student Research Symposium, a competition between 80 international and national dental students held at the University of Tennessee and sponsored by the Hinman Dental Society of Atlanta.

Freeman, the is son of UK College of Medicine alumni Roger Freeman, M.D,. and Donna Freeman of San Diego. He is a Centre College graduate and president-elect of the National American Association for Dental Research student group and will serve as president in 2000-2001. He also is career guidance counselor for the UK chapter of the American Student Dental Association.
