LEXINGTON, KY (Aug. 6, 1999) -- The 95 members
of the University of Kentucky College of Medicines Class of 2003 marked the
beginning of their medical education today at UKs Memorial Hall. During the
ceremony, UK medical students received their short white coats that they wear while seeing
patients. The first-year students took an "Affirmation for Students of
Medicine," pledging a relationship of compassion and respect with patients, teachers
and colleagues.
UKs Medical Alumni Association co-sponsored the annual ceremony, which is
designed to encourage humanism in medicine. Richard Miles, M.D., past president of the
Kentucky Academy of Family Physicians, was the speaker.
