LEXINGTON, KY (March 31, 1999) -- University of
Kentucky women’s basketball coach Bernadette Mattox and senior forward Jaye Barnes
met with former Wildcat Nancy Elkins as she was being discharged from the UK Markey Cancer
Center, where she was being treated for breast cancer. Elkins, 96, of Winchester, played
for the UK women's varsity basketball team – nicknamed the Kittens – from 1921
to 1923. Elkins played forward during her two seasons at UK.
Mattox and Barnes presented Elkins with a UK sweatshirt and two mini-basketballs. |
