Put on your swing dancing shoes
The University of Kentucky HepKats Swing Dance Club invites the public to a swing dance featuring the music of the Kentucky Jazz Repertory Orchestra (KJRO) at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at the UK Student Center Grand Ballroom. This is a unique opportunity to hear original arrangements of the great Big Bands, including music from artists Jimmie Lunceford, Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Glenn Miller and Artie Shaw.
Festivities will begin at 7:30 p.m. with a free swing dance lesson. The dance begins at 8:30 p.m. and runs until midnight, and will include a dance contest, as well as refreshments. HepKats provides swing dance lessons on the original swing dances of the 1930s and hosts monthly dances.
The KJRO, under the co-direction of UK School of Music professors Dick Domek and Miles Osland, will present authentic original music arrangements from the Big Band era that are almost impossible to hear played live today because of their technical difficulty.†
