Carol Lunney, a master’s degree student in the University of Kentucky’s Department of Family Studies, has been awarded the second annual Paul Kevin Burberry Award from the UK Interdisciplinary Human Development Institute (IHDI).
The $500 annual award honors the late Paul Kevin Burberry, who was a student at the university who pioneered in his studies in the field of disabilities and was a consultant with IHDI. The selection committee, which included Kevin’s parents, the Rev. Clyde David and Susan Burberry, selected Lunney for her outstanding achievements and commitment to the field of disabilities.
Lunney, who has a doctorate degree in human development from Vanderbilt University, is in the master’s degree program in marriage and family therapy in the College of Agriculture’s Department of Family Studies.
Lunney is a research assistant on the “Brighter Tomorrows” project, where she has completed several tasks including organizing and recruiting families and practicing physicians for a series of focus groups on project modules; developing several resource documents for physicians on specific issues related to Down syndrome; and working closely with the Core Medical Team and Expert Parent Panel to elicit feedback for further reiterations of project scripts.
